Thanksgiving subscription dance, 1912

Thanksgiving Subscription dance, November 29, 1912
Thanksgiving is coming up, and most students are planning on spending time with their family and friends. In 1912, many students stayed at college and attended the annual Thanksgiving Subscription dance. They invited local girls as their dates – there weren’t any female students at the university until a few years later. Shortly after the dancers posed for this photo, a fire started in the building. This fire would go on to destroy the Barracks and Administration building in the early hours of November 29th. The 100th anniversary of the fire is coming up next week. Check out the link below to learn more about the most devastating fire in UMD history.
